Although having been around for over 30 years, Bute Island Foods and the Sheese brand has been recognised as a leading Scottish vegan start-up success story by the business website insider.co.uk.
In their review of ten of the most successful vegan start-up companies in Scotland, insider says to forget about dodgy plant-based burgers cooked on the same grills as meat burgers. The companies quoted are “at the forefront of producing proper vegan food and are winning legions of legume-loving fans around the world”, exporting products around the globe.
Bute Island Foods was created by the current owners when they purchased the fledgling company back in 2003, and has since invested in company growth to ensure that the Sheese brand is one of the most recognised vegan cheese producers in the world. With over 28 products being exported to countries around the world, Bute Island Foods is indeed a success story in the vegan industry. We supply supermarket own-branded vegan cheese to all four of the leading supermarket chains, as well as seeing our Sheese brand included in the free-from sections of those and others. Working with our partners overseas, our markets are expanding in Europe, Australia and Canada, and we are making inroads into the lucrative US market. And with investment into increasing production capacity, it’s not surprising that the company is the major private employer on the island, bringing benefit to the Isle of Bute economy.
It is therefore always gratifying to receive recognition from a top business publisher, as we continue to grow, invest and expand. And as the vegan market is one of the fastest-growing in not only the UK but around the world, our experience, effective management and continued investment will ensure that the next 30 years will see continued growth for the company and its products.
